Work & Travel USA

Turn Your Summer Break into an American Adventure

Forget spending your summer on the couch and spend it living, working, and traveling in the United States. The J-1 Work & Travel program is a US government cultural exchange initiative that allows full-time university students to live and work in the USA for up to 4 months during their summer break, not as a tourist, but as a temporary local..

You will work a seasonal job alongside Americans and other international students, earning money to fund your travels across the country.

Why Students Love It?

  • Earn a US-dollar salary, typically in the range of $12–$18 per hour
  • Improve your English naturally through daily interaction
  • Make friends from all over the world
  • Use your earnings to fund a post-work road trip, think New York City, Las Vegas, California road trips, or the Grand Canyon
  • Return home with confidence, independence, and a global mindset

How It Works?

1. Work period: Secure a paid job in a seasonal role for 3–4 months.

2. Travel period: After your contract ends, you get a "Grace Period" of up to 30 days to travel anywhere in the USA, from New York City to the Grand Canyon.

3. The program fits neatly between academic semesters, allowing you to return home before your next term begins.

Where You Could Live?

Placements are typically located in some of the most popular seasonal destinations in the United States, including:

  • Florida (Orlando, Miami, beach resorts)
  • California (coastal towns, tourist hubs)
  • Ocean City, Maryland
  • Wisconsin Dells (resort and waterpark capital of the Midwest)

Each destination offers a different lifestyle, from beach towns and theme parks to lakeside resorts and classic American summer communities.

What Jobs Can You Do?

You will work in the hospitality and tourism sectors. Common roles include:

  • Resort & Hotel Staff: Front desk, housekeeping, maintenance.
  • Theme Park Attendant: Ride operator, game attendant, food service (Disney, Universal, Six Flags).
  • Restaurant Staff: Server, busser, host/hostess.
  • Lifeguard: Pool or beach lifeguarding (training provided).

Jobs are designed to be accessible, social, and compatible with a short-term stay.
